Jack and the Bean Stalk Chapters 02 The narrative

Jack and the beanstalk. The narrative Chapter 02.

So the story says once in that time and once in that place, there was a boy called Jack. Who lived in very poor circumstances with his mother…… Eventually, things got so bad Jack’s mother decided they would have to sell the family cow and Jack would take it to market and sell it. So off Jack set to the market to sell the cow, However, on the road, he meets a man in very strange clothes and a funny hat.

The man asked Jack where he was going with the cow.   Jack told him and the man said “Well I think I can save you some trouble there I’ve got three magic beans here which he pulled out of the brim of his hat.     Would you like to swap the cow for three magic beans??.       What to do what to do. what to do Jack thought this was a pretty good deal and so the exchange was made.

Jack went home arriving much earlier than his mother expected …..she asked Jack where the money was ?….Jack said he had got something much better than money and showed her the three magic beans proudly. Jack’s mother got so angry that she picked up the beans and threw them out of the window and sent Jack to bed without any supper.

Next morning when Jack woke up outside the window there grew a Giant beanstalk that seemed to reach all the way to the sky.

The beanstalk was so high that it disappeared into the clouds, its base was three stalks entwined that created a sort of a stairway that just begged to be climbed by a young child.    On the other hand, it was very high and a little scary. Jack was climbing the beanstalk, up and up he went until his own house grew small and he could see the whole countryside around.   The view was so fascinating he almost forgot to climb to the top.

When he got to the top he found to his amazement another land, this land was barren, just bare earth no grass, no birds, no trees, no water nothing except piles of broken down brick walls, and timber wreckage. Broken furniture, broken houses, everything was broken like a Tsunami had been through there.

As he wandered around, he met an old woman on the road who recognized him, called him Jack anyway. She said seeing you have found your way up here I need to tell you what your mother could not, I need to tell you about your father, the Giant, and your mother. You see Jack when you were very young you lived with your Father and Mother in a great castle with lots of staff. Your father was a very successful businessman, had many companies and mining operations.

One day a Giant who was down on his luck came knocking at the door, your father being the man he was, took the giant in. The Giant in return offered you, father, a map to hidden valuable minerals and offered to share the wealth with your father if he would mount an expedition to find and mine the wealth. So, your father set out to find the place indicated on the map,

After your father left the giant broke into the treasury and stole all the money and other treasures kept in there except for three beans in a saucer on the mantelpiece, the Giant left them as they seemed to him as inconsequential, and he overlooked them. He killed the guards and the staff. He was about to kill you, but your mother pleaded for your life. The giant agreed on the condition that your mother leaves the castle and swear never to reveal who your father was and what happened. Your mother agreed. The treasure the giant has is your birthright and belonged to your father.

Jack was now very thirsty and tired far in the distance he saw a building he went up to the door and knocked.

The door opened and there stood the Giant’s wife a huge woman 10 times Jack’s size and that was only her shoes (which was all that Jack could see) Jack stepped back so he could see the Giants wife’s face.     She looked down at Jack in surprise and astonishment She says to Jack “What are you doing here?  If my husband finds you here, he will eat you I likes to eat young boys like you!  Run while you can! Jack replies that he is very thirsty, and could he just have some water and then he will go. So, Jack follows her into the huge kitchen.      Just then in strides the Giant shouting.

Woman where is my supper??

Quickly the Giants wife hides jack…..Where??? …….?

The Giant comes into the kitchen sniffing the air singing his favorite song

Fe fy fo fum I smell the blood of a man!

Be he alive or be he dead I’ll grind his bones to bake MY bread

Oh no says his wife it just the cattle cooking in the pot, you can still smell the herdsman you stole them off on the cattle skins, that’s all. The Giant’s wife prepares the Giant a huge meal   12 cattle 3 pigs 2 goats 100 lit of wine. The Giant eats and eats and eats it seemed to jack that the giant would never stop eating

When he had finished his meal, he called for his gold coins so he could count them.

The Giant fell asleep.     Jack crept out of his hiding place picked up some of the coins and ran back to the beanstalk and back to his mother.

Soon they had used all the money Jack said he would go up the beanstalk again.      His mother was against the idea. There are Giants up there and You could get eaten.

Jack said he was going anyway, so up the beanstalk for the second time.

Once again he knocked on the door asking for water

Once again the Giant’s wife warned him of the dangers of the Giant as she walked into the Kitchen for jack’s water.

Just then in strides the Giant shouting    Woman where is my supper??

Quickly the Giants wife hides jack…..Where??? …….?

The Giant comes into the kitchen sniffing the air singing his favorite song

Fe fy fo fum I smell the blood of a man!

Be he alive or be he dead I’ll grind his bones to break   MY   bread

Ah no says the wife it’s just the smell of humans on the chickens I’m cooking for you supper

And she once again prepares the Giant a huge supper.

After he has finished, he called for his goose that laid the golden eggs

He sat down and commanded the goose lay a golden egg as the goose began to lay the egg, he dosed off the sleep satisfied by the meal his wife had prepared him.

As soon as he started to snore jack came out of his hiding place picked up the goose and fled back to the beanstalk and back home to mother.

He and his mother had a marvelous time with all the golden eggs until one day

“After a short time or a long time or however long time that takes,” The story says.

Jack’s mother killed the goose that laid the golden egg. WTF. Jacks Mother? Killed the goose!

It’s a brave thing to go up the beanstalk once, it takes a huge amount of courage to face the Giant a second time……But to go up a third time that is almost unheard of.

Jack’s mother was for it however and so up he went arriving at the kitchen door asking for water he was led into the kitchen with the same warning She says to Jack “What are you doing here?  If my husband finds you here he will eat you he  likes to eat young boys.!  Run while you can!

Jack replies that he is very thirsty, and could he just have some water and then he will go. So Jack follows her into the huge kitchen.      Just then in strides the Giant shouting    Woman where is my supper??

His wife reply’s no its just the smell of the prisoners in the dungeon he can smell

She proceeds to prepare him a meal 30 cows 10 pigs 3 goats 10 sheep two whole fields of barley and all the water of all the rivers for a week.

After having eaten all of this he calls for his prised possession the golden harp the one that can sing with its own voice.

His wife brings the harp and it plays until he goes to sleep.

When the Giant is asleep jack steels attempts to steal the harp.     But jack is in trouble now

The harp begins to cry out    “Somebody is stealing me somebody is stealing me.

Jack runs for the beanstalk followed by the enraged giant.

As jack gets to the bottom of the beanstalk his mother is standing there with an ax and jack cuts down the beanstalk.

The beanstalk and the giant come crashing down to earth and the Giant is killed.

That is the end of the story.
